Project Managers for Stockholm's Public Spaces

Stockholm – our capital city with millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions. We work for everyone living here today and in the future. Now we are looking for you who want to think big, new, and differently with us – for the people of Stockholm.

The Traffic Office is responsible for maintaining and developing Stockholm's public spaces to ensure they are safe, attractive, accessible, and sustainable. The mission includes everything from taking care of the existing urban environment to implementing strategic investment projects and planning for tomorrow's growing metropolis. To accomplish our mission, we are about 470 colleagues, mainly located in the newly renovated premises of the Technical Board House on Kungsholmen. Together, we ensure that Stockholm continues to be a leading city with sustainable transport solutions and vibrant environments, both today and in the future.

Do you want to lead investment projects that shape Stockholm's parks, squares, and public spaces?

We are looking for two experienced project managers who want to work with the city's green and public environments in projects with significant impact and a clear sustainability focus.

Welcome to us

We are in an expansive phase where our issues, projects, and budget assignments have received increasing focus in recent years. With significant investment funds for the city's public spaces, there are great opportunities to create development and improvement in Stockholm's everyday environments, even without extensive new construction. The work is characterized by a clear future focus and includes issues related to safety, climate, and the environment.

The Urban Space Projects unit is part of the Urban Environment Department. We work with investment projects for the city's places, squares, and parks. The unit also works strategically and with planning for Stockholm's street trees. We currently consist of 14 employees in various specialist roles and a unit manager. We are now looking for two experienced project managers.

We offer

We offer you a secure workplace where we support each other in daily work and care for a good working environment. At the same time, we are a forward-looking unit that actively develops working methods, tests new solutions, and drives our issues with commitment and responsibility.

In addition to this, we offer:

  • flexible working hours
  • healthcare reimbursement, wellness hours, and the opportunity to participate in wellness activities
  • the possibility to exchange vacation day allowances for extra leave
  • the opportunity to work from home two days a week
  • good opportunities for personal development, skills development, as well as participation and influence in the workplace.

Your role

As a project manager with us, you will lead projects that shape how the city's public spaces function in everyday life, from early considerations regarding use and maintenance to implementation and follow-up in operation. You will work on many exciting projects within a highly prioritized area at the Traffic Office.

Your tasks will include:

  • leading and driving park, square, and quay projects from early stages to system documentation and, in some cases, being responsible for projects even during construction
  • managing project finances, timelines, and follow-ups
  • coordinating and managing consultants and contractors as well as relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • coordinating the needs of district administrations, operations, and the project in the design of the location and ensuring that solutions are sustainable in the long term
  • participating in strategic work within the office, such as technical manuals and project handbooks
  • staffing and driving budget assignments assigned to the unit
  • participating in improvement work with the office's investment portfolios.

Your skills and experience

We are looking for someone who has:

  • relevant higher education in urban planning or civil engineering, alternatively trained as a landscape architect or landscape engineer
  • many years of experience in similar tasks
  • current and documented experience in project management and design work within complex street, square, or urban development projects
  • good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • experience working in municipal operations (employed or consultant)
  • experience with renovation or upgrading projects in existing urban areas
  • experience with stormwater/BGG solutions.

We are looking for a confident and qualified project manager who takes responsibility and drives the work independently and systematically. You have the ability to weigh different needs and perspectives, make trade-offs, and make decisions even when conditions change.

You can reformulate and clarify project goals when necessary, prioritize between different interests, and stand by your positions. The role involves many contact points, and you have the ability to create consensus among relevant administrations, consultants, and other stakeholders.

You are attentive and clear in your communication, and can both negotiate and set boundaries when necessary to achieve the project's goals.

We place great importance on personal qualities, motivation, and commitment to the position.

Welcome with your application!

Other

We recruit without a personal letter in this recruitment process to strengthen the focus on the competencies and experiences required for this role.
